On May 29, Zhang Jifeng, Vice President for Academic Affairs of Zhongyuan University of Technology and Dean of the School of Automation and Electrical Engineering, delivered a special academic lecture entitled "Extremum Seeking and Least-Squares Estimation" in Room 218 of Building 10. More than forty faculty members and students attended the lecture.

Beginning with least-squares estimation, Professor Zhang systematically explained the theoretical basis and proof procedures for extrema of functions of two variables and multivariable functions. He then introduced the principles and procedures of least-squares estimation and recursive least-squares estimation, helping the audience gain a clearer understanding of related theoretical methods. He also connected these topics with the development of the discipline and outlined the evolution of relevant research directions.
Professor Zhang further analyzed the challenges faced in current research and discussed possible future directions. Drawing on his own academic experience, he encouraged faculty members and students to think critically, strengthen their theoretical foundations, and pursue research questions with rigor. During the discussion session, participants raised questions and exchanged views with the speaker, creating an active academic atmosphere.
The lecture broadened the academic horizons of participating faculty members and students and provided useful guidance for their subsequent study and research. It also contributed to the School's ongoing efforts to strengthen academic exchange, stimulate research innovation, and support the cultivation of high-quality talent.
