The School of Automation and Electrical Engineering traces its origins to the Department of Electrical Engineering, one of the three founding departments of Zhongyuan University of Technology, established in 1955. In 2023, as part of the University's preparations to establish Henan University of Electronic Science and Technology, the School was reconstituted around its core disciplines, including Control Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering. The School currently has 79 faculty and staff members, including 74 full-time faculty members. Among them are 12 professors, 20 associate professors, 56 doctoral degree holders, and 48 master's supervisors. Its faculty includes four recipients of national talent program recognition, two specially appointed professors, two Henan Provincial Academic and Technical Leaders, and four Academic and Technical Leaders recognized by the Henan Provincial Department of Education. The School is also home to a Henan Provincial University Science and Technology Innovation Team. The School comprises five teaching units: the Department of Automation, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation, the Department of Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, the Department of Aeronautical Control, and the Automation and Electrical Engineering Experimental Center. It also houses two research institutes: the Institute of Automation Technology and the Institute of Electrical Engineering Technology. The School offers six undergraduate programs: Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Robotics Engineering, Flight Vehicle Control and Information Engineering, and Unmanned Aircraft Systems Engineering. The Automation program is recognized as both a National First-Class Undergraduate Program and a National Distinctive Program. The Electrical Engineering and Automation program is designated as a Provincial Distinctive Program and a provincial pilot program for reforming engineering education and talent development. The department offering Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation is recognized as a Provincial Outstanding Grassroots Teaching Organization. The Robotics Engineering program was introduced in 2023. The School is authorized to offer academic master's degrees in Control Science and Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as professional master's degrees in Control Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Electrical Engineering. It hosts a range of advanced research platforms, including the Henan Collaborative Innovation Center for Intelligent Information Technology; the Henan Key Laboratory of Computational Intelligence and Intelligent Systems; the Henan International Joint Laboratory for Advanced Control and New Energy Science and Technology; the Henan International Joint Laboratory for Computational Intelligence Research and Applications; the Henan International Joint Laboratory for Intelligent Biomimetic Robotics; the Henan Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Optimization and Scheduling; the Henan Engineering Research Center for Flexible Power Integration and Control; and the National Model Innovation Studio for Model Workers and Skilled Craftspeople in the Education, Science, Culture, Health, and Sports Sectors In recent years, the School has undertaken more than 20 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and over 40 projects at the provincial and ministerial levels, securing more than RMB 30 million in research funding. It has received nearly 10 provincial and ministerial science and technology awards, published over 200 high-quality research papers in leading domestic and international journals, and been granted more than 40 invention patents. Over the past three years, six undergraduate theses and three master's theses have received provincial outstanding thesis awards. The School's Automation Faculty Party Branch is recognized as a Model Party Branch among higher education institutions in Henan Province, while its Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation Faculty Party Branch holds the corresponding university-level designation. Two faculty members have been honored as Outstanding Communist Party Members of Henan Province, and several others have received university-level recognition. Guided by the principles of perseverance, practical action, tangible results, and innovation, the School's faculty, staff, and students are committed to advancing its academic disciplines and placing student development and moral education at the heart of its mission.
