On October 18, 2025, the Hunan Alumni Association of Zhongyuan University of Technology donated a calligraphic rendition of A Record of Yueyang Tower at a ceremony on the Longhu Campus. The gift celebrated the University's 70th anniversary and expressed alumni's enduring affection for their alma mater. Zhang Ying, Party Secretary of the School of Automation and Electrical Engineering, chaired the ceremony.
Guests included Wang Guishu, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Executive Vice President of the Hunan Association for Science and Technology, and Tang Xiaoling, General Manager of Hunan Huijin Engineering Management Co., Ltd. University attendees included Zhang Jifeng, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the School; Professor Che Zhanbin of the School of Artificial Intelligence; Executive Dean Zhu Yongsheng; Deputy Party Secretary Wang Yuanyuan; Vice Dean Yan Li; and faculty representatives.
Written by Fan Zhongyan, A Record of Yueyang Tower expresses the ideal of placing public concerns before personal enjoyment. The essay has long been admired by the Communist Party of China. Mao Zedong particularly valued this ideal, while General Secretary Xi Jinping has frequently quoted its celebrated lines and discussed the essay in his writings.
The donated work consists of six scrolls in cursive script by noted Hunan calligrapher Rao Xiahao. Acquired in 2017, it will be displayed in full after the School's building at the Airport Campus is completed. Wang Guishu and Zhang Jifeng represented the donors and the University at the handover.
Wang Guishu explained that the essay's values closely reflected the University's educational ethos, making the work a meaningful anniversary gift rooted in Hunan's cultural heritage. Recalling his student years and teachers, he expressed gratitude for the education that had laid the foundation for his subsequent career.
After the ceremony, Zhang Jifeng accompanied Wang Guishu on a visit to the University's history museum and science and technology exhibition.
